Fish And Chips with Beer Batter

The English loves their Fish and Chips. It is one of their favourite food and it is the must have dish if you ever go to England for a visit. If you do not wish to travel all the way to England to have a fish and chip, it is still possible to cook yourself a fish and chips if you have the right ingredients. I hope you will enjoy this recipe.

Ingredients:
  • 4 cod fish fillets or 4 haddock fillets
  • 6 ounces plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 (8 fluid ounce) bottle british beer, Small
  • 1/2 lemon, juice of
  • salt & pepper
  • extra flour
  • 3 lbs potatoes, peeled & chipped
  • Cooking oil
Directions:
  1. Heat up the oil for frying the potato chips.
  2. Then peel the potatoes and cut into chunky sized chips. Then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  3. Fry the chips for about 3 minutes until soft but NOT coloured. Drain and shake well and set to one side.
  4. Then dredge the fish fillets in the flour thoroughly thenleave the fish fillets in the flour whilst you make the batter.
  5. Then mix flour, bicarbonate of soda, salt and pepper into a large bowl. Gradually add beer until it is smooth and there are no lumps.
  6. Add the lemon juice or a splash of malt vinegar if desired and continue mixing.
  7. Dip the fillet one at a time and coat it with the batter. Then straight into the hot oil.
  8. As soon as it has crisped up and set, continue with the others for about about 6 to 10 minutes each.
  9. Then serve on plates with salt & vinegar.
