Banana Cake

Banana are commonly use for desserts as it is soft and sweet. It is a very popular dessert for wedding dinner ceremony. I hope you will like this dessert.

  • 125 g butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in the milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 mashed ripe bananas
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 pinch salt
Steps:
  1. Cream butter and sugar, add egg and soda thats been dissolved in the milk, then add bananas and dry ingredients and vanilla essence.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Bake in 8 inch square pan in moderate oven (350F or 180C) for 30-40 minutes or until skewer comes out dry.
  4. Ice with favourite icing.
  5. I use a chocolate butter icing.

Pepper Beef

Ingredients:

  • 1 beef round steak, cut in strips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 large green pepper, cut in strips
  • 1 medium onion, diced

Steps:

  1. Heat oil in large skillet. Add beef strips and cook it for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add mushroom soup and a cup of water. Then add soy sauce.
  3. Add green peppers and onions and simmer for 45 minutes until meat is tender. This dish is best served with rice.

Sweet Potato Water

Sweet potato water is a Chinese dessert. It is very popular to be served with yam. I do not really fancy yam in my dessert, so I am just going to show you how to prepare sweet potato water.   • sweet potatoes cutted into cubes
  • sugar
  • water
Steps:
  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into cubes.
  2. Boil water and pour in the sweet potatoes. When the sweet potatoes are cooked, pour in the sugar, according to your own preference.
  3. Serve hot.

Hot and Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potatoes are rich in Vitamin A and C. It is also a very good alternative to potatoes. Just as the name implies, sweet potatoes are sweet and it is much sweeter than our normal potatoes. The Chinese loves to use this ingredient as a dessert which also known as the sweet potato water. There are many other alternatives to cooking sweet potatoes and one of the recipe is the one I am about to share here. This is a hot and spicy sweet potatoes dish. It is easy and quick to cook up. The only tricky part is to peel the sweet potatoes, as sweet potatoes comes in odd shape. Be extra careful when you are peeling them and have fun cooking!

  • sweet potatoes- peeled and cut into cubes
  • oil
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • black pepper
  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper - according to your own preference
Directions:
  1. Marinate the cubed sweet potatoes with or oil and add the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes to a greased baking dish
  3. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for about 22-25 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are tender but not too soft (tossing with a wooden spoon or spatula about every 15-20 minutes, baking time will vary depending on the size you cut the potatoes)

Honey and Ginger Chicken Breasts

  • 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 -2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 -3 teaspoons ground ginger or 1 tablespoon freshly ground gingerroot
  • 2 -4 garlic cloves, peeled & crushed
  • salt, to taste
  • fresh ground black pepper, to taste
Steps:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C or 350°F.
  2. Place a layer of aluminium foil for easy cleaning at the later stage in a baking dish. Then place the chicken breasts.
  3. Mix the honey, mustard, water, ginger & crushed garlic together in a bowl.
  4. Mix the chicken breasts with the marinate and season with some salt and black pepper.
  5. Then bake in the oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
  6. Serve with warm rice.

You Tiao

This delicacy is great with bak kut teh. Even though it is just flour and it is oily, it complements bak kut teh. In fact, it is the must order delicacy to go with bak kut teh. Most of the time, if I were to cook my own bak kut teh, I would just take a drive out and buy a few pieces. It only costs about RM0.80 per piece. If I were to do it myself, it could take a very long time. But if you are hardworking and would love to do everything yourself, you should try this recipe. Enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm water
  • peanut oil

Steps:

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in water.
  2. Lightly knead dough. Loosely cover for about 20 minutes, or enough time for the dough to rise.
  3. On floured surface, roll the dough into 2 inch wide and 14 inch long strips. Twist together in pairs, pinching the ends. Holding each end of twists, pull until 9 inches long.
  4. Deep fry each twist in peanut oil until golden brown (about 25 seconds). Serve with bak kut teh.

Unagi Teriyaki Recipe

There are many teriyaki sauce for sale in the supermarkets. It can be used for chicken, beef and eel. I personally prefer teriyaki eel as the eel meat are softer compare to chicken and beef. Nevertheless, chicken also goes very well with the teriyaki sauce. There is one particular brand which I found myself buying it over and over against, the Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce. As I do not have a lot of time to cook after work, I usually just buy the sauce and prepare the eel. It is must easier and it doesn't take a lot of time.

  • 1 lb eel
  • sake rice wine
Steps:
  1. Prepare the eel and marinate the eel with the Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce for about 1 hour.
  2. Place it on a grill, turning it occasionally until cooked. Remember to glaze them. Add sake rice wine and serve warm.
